We are pleased to announce that Carlos Marroquin has started work as Event Producer for the IHME Helsinki 2024 Maaleipä Challenge. Carlos holds a Master’s in Intercultural Communication from the University of Jyväskylä and a Media Studies degree from Stadia University of Applied Sciences (now Metropolia). In the Maaleipä challenge, Carlos is responsible for producing the award ceremony at Teurastamo Kellohalli on 21 September 2024.

Carlos has spent more than fifteen years working extensively as a producer, director, scriptwriter and journalist in the media industry, in both public and commercial channels. He and Márton Jelinkó co-directed a virtual reality experience about the Tom of Finland House in Los Angeles, which premiered at Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma in April 2023.

He has been involved in several educational projects focusing on teaching media, journalism and production to children and young people. In all his work, he wants to deal with the complex relationships between people, addressing issues such as immigration, multiculturalism and sexual diversity.

In IHME Helsinki and Cooking Sections’ Maaleipä Challenge Carlos is inspired and excited by the opportunity to learn more about sustainable development and how to combine this with artistic expression:

I got interested in being an event producer for the Maaleipä Challenge because I am a food lover who is always trying to find healthier ways to make and enjoy food, while respecting the environment. Event production for public art also represents a positive shift in a long career in the media. I’m curious to see what kinds of breads we will have in the exhibition and the event at the Kellohalli.

We at IHME Helsinki are excited to be working with Carlos. The Maaleipä Challenge Award Ceremony will highlight the bakers of Maaleipä breads and the producers of raw materials that care for the soil, as well as sparking a conversation about food security. The five best breads and bakers will be awarded prizes. The Maaleipä Challenge is looking for recipes that combine the well-being of land, water and people’s guts. Enter the challenge by submitting your own Maaleipä bread recipe by 1 September.
