The Sustainable Visual Arts Network Meetings share the challenges and expertise of the network members in relation to the ecological transition of each organisation and discuss the future activities of the network. Interesting speakers from the visual arts scene in Finland and abroad are invited to speak about their own work to promote the sustainability transition.

The third meeting of the year will be on Thursday 10 October remotely from 2 pm to 4 pm.

Program

14.00-14.10 Welcoming words and the program of the meeting, Paula Toppila (IHME Helsinki) chair of the Sustainable Visual Arts Network.

14.10-14.40 Introduction to Green Producers, Mads Astrup Rønning  Founder, 20 min talk + 10-15 min Q&A. In English.

“Green producers´ goal is to unify the Nordic culture sector around the same mission and method of measuring and reducing emissions. That is why a license for the Green Producers Tool automatically grants membership to our Club. The Green Producers Club is a knowledge hub and facilitates the exchange of experience and know-how between users of the Tool. Our members get access to production guides and crew guides, to the Club Portal, invites to seminars and workshops, and a chance to meet across sectors and countries. We have local offices in Oslo and Copenhagen and regularly host meet-ups in both cities. The Club’s aim is to reduce emissions from the culture sector according to Norway’s obligations under the Paris Agreement. And we hope that the combination of the Green Producers Tool and Club will lead to industry-wide sustainability standards and best practices.”

Mads Astrup Rønning  will focus on the Green Producers´ tool and the Green Producers Club. He will also include information on the coming EU legislation with reporting for organisations (CSRD and GHG).

14.45-15.15 Goodstock, Jyri Sucksdorff, 20 min talk + 10-15 min Q&A. In Finnish.

The life cycle of materials for creative projects can be short, even if there is a strong will to improve their sustainability. That’s why we decided to facilitate the recycling of objects and materials in the creative industries. At Goodstock, professionals can rent, sell and buy objects and materials used in theatre, film, events, etc. We welcome large companies, small businesses and freelancers alike. Using recycled stage sets and props is always more ecological and, in most cases, cheaper. Jyri Sucksdorff is the CEO of Cooperative Ziran and The Goods Company, which runs Goodstock, and the Environmental Planner of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet.
