Research on contemporary art and natural science collaborations

Interrelations between contemporary art and natural sciences are at an exciting juncture. During the past 10 years, we have seen new collaborative forms and spaces, not to mention wider interaction with audiences. Towards Ecological Conjunctions discussion will deep dive into research on contemporary art and natural science collaborations.

The discussion will be in Finnish.

Welcome to University of Helsinki’s Think Corner (Yliopistonkatu 4) on 19 March 2025 at 17:00 – 19:00 to hear more about:

  • What are the aims, challenges and successes of these collaborations between curators, artists and researchers in Finland?
  • How is knowledge generated by projects, exhibitions and events that combine art and science – and what kind of knowledge is it?
  • How does all this resonate with sustainability and civil society formation?

Various art–science projects have also attracted growing interest and institutional support. And yet, these multidisciplinary practices remain understudied as an art historical and a social phenomenon, both in Finland and internationally. What can we achieve by examining this phenomenon from an interdisciplinary and international perspective?

The event is a panel discussion organised by the EcoConjunctions research project funded by the Research Council of Finland. The panelists are the project PI, Dr Minna Valjakka (Art History / University of Helsinki) and the following partners of collaboration:

The event can also be followed remotely in Think Corner’s stream!
