During November, the IHME Helsinki team has been joined for three weeks by Finnish-language intern Halil Kisyo (b. 1990). Halil was born in Gotse Delchev, Bulgaria, but studied and graduated as a visual artist at the Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts and Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul, Turkey. Halil now lives in Finland, where he is continuing his artistic work. He is currently studying Finnish language and culture on an integration course. In the process, he has become interested in art from a broader social perspective, which led him to apply for a language internship with us.

For me, art is a powerful tool for raising social awareness, embracing cultural diversity and bringing people together. I have been following IHME Helsinki for a long time, and I am deeply impressed by the way IHME Helsinki Commissions use art as a tool for social change. These projects have shown me that art is not only visual expression, but also a force for social change that inspires me. I believe that this journey will strengthen my artistic work and reinforce my ambition to use art as a tool for social change.

During his language internship, Halil has been a great help in moving the IHME Helsinki office from Kalevankatu Street to Hakaniemi. His duties also include familiarising himself with the IHME Helsinki Commissions and website, and providing feedback on their content from a Finnish-language student’s perspective. At the same time, he is also learning professional vocabulary, which is the purpose of the language internship. We are happy to be working with Halil. Language internships are a great opportunity for Finnish-language students to get to know Finnish working culture. For IHME, language trainees are important for developing equality and diversity in our activities.
