IHME is an ecologically sustainable art institution

The systems that sustain life are the atmosphere, the biosphere, and the water sphere (hydrosphere). They guarantee people clean air, clean water, and an opportunity to produce clean food. Global warming, ocean acidification and loss of nature threaten the stability of life-sustaining systems. We do climate work to curb these destructive phenomena and to support the sustainability of society as a whole. Art has the power to change our thinking and actions. While we support the freedom of our partner artists, we take climate measures to save natural resources in the production of their works. 

In our operations, art interacts with science. We are committed to truthfulness in all our activities and communications. In the execution of the works, we aim for high quality both artistically and in their production. Our operations are openly evaluated in ways that are appropriate for each production, and together with stakeholders. Our administration applies the principles of good foundation management. 

We take conscious risks: when we focus on one production per year; when we produce new works of art; when we try out new ways of working in the art field; and when we develop new production solutions. Understanding and curbing the environmental crisis requires comprehensive, new and bold ways of acting. 

Our goal is to promote eco-social education, a sustainable and democratic society and a diverse good life. We make contemporary art more accessible and bring art within the reach of new audiences, so that awareness of the environmental crisis increases and is open to more and more people through experiential content and actions. This goal is supported by the operating context of public space and by contents and operating methods designed for actors and audiences in art, science and climate work.

Long-termism and evaluating and developing the direct impacts of our operations and broad social influence are built into everything we do. This applies both to our long-term cooperation with each artist aimed at the creation of a new work of art and to our long-term commitment to climate work. 

We treat people fairly and remove obstacles and deficiencies in decision-making related to work and event production, so that disadvantaged groups of people have equal opportunities to participate fully in society, working life, art and culture. We implement an equality strategy in our operations, which is updated annually.
